sweet & simple.

The other day my mom and I went to the park and it was the perfect place to snap some photos. My dog, Rosie, was even kind enough to guest model :)

Top: Zara (old)  |  Shorts: Banana Republic (similar | Head Wrap: Lemons & Lace  | Sandals: Aldo (old)  |  Sunglasses: Target

I love looks that can be worn all day every day (if it isn't obvious already) and this one is perfect for summer. The pocket detailing on this top is what makes it one of my favorites. It's not like every other v-neck in my closet. I chose to pair this top with clean white shorts and an adorable head wrap. Head wraps/head bands (how ever you choose to wear them!) are becoming one of my favorite accessories for the summer/spring months. Lemons & Lace has the cutest ones! Check them out!
Have a wonderful weekend!

how to: green smoothie

Happy Memorial Day!
I hope your weekends have been treating you well! I just got back from Dallas yesterday so things have been kinda of hectic and I'm behind on blogging. So today I wanted to share with you my version of the green smoothie. I'm not a cook what so ever but these are so easy to make. They're great for the summer and sneaking some veggies in make them so much healthier.

To start off, you'll need:

1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 banana
1 cup (or a handful) baby spinach

I first blend my orange juice, yogurt, and banana.

I then add in my baby spinach which gives it that bright green color!
(I some times add in a couple ice cubes at that time too if I feel it isn't cold enough)

The orange juice and banana mask the spinach taste so you get the nutrients with out the taste!
There are so many ways to make this, but I use orange juice instead of milk because I'm lactose intolerant. If you do decide to try this, tell me in the comments!

rainy days.

Dress: F21 (old)  | Boots: Hunter | Umbrella: J.Crew (old)
(Luckily, for the camera's sake, we wrapped up this shoot right before the rain came!)

Rain is in the forecast! It isn't spring time with out rain. I actually love the rain. There's something about it that is comforting and sometimes allows me to pretend I'm back in London (my all time favorite city). It's so easy to let the gloomy skies get to you, so that's why I chose to pair this blue wrap dress with some Hunter wellies and a brightly patterned umbrella. It's the little things to lift your mood when the weather seems dull.
On that note, I will say that I am ready for some laying out weather! Summer time is just around the corner!
Stay dry and safe (especially with these terrible storms),

{Prayers go out to Oklahoma in the midst of the tragedy they're facing. My heart hurts for Moore, OK}

day 20.

Day 20, Monday: Get real. Share something you're struggling with right now.

As I've been reading through a few of these today, I've noticed a common theme about this subject: we're all hesitant to write about this. As I sit here with an hour left in the day, I keep getting this nudge to blog. It's hard to be vulnerable and I don't want to come off like I'm complaining about something that doesn't matter.
The thing that has been bothering me lately is transition. I'm at a time in my life where things are drastically changing. I'm constantly learning more about myself and the path God wants me to take. My first year at Mizzou started out rough, but I know it's exactly where God wants me to be. I'm already so grateful for the relationships He's blessed me with in Columbia.
I'm currently home for the summer and it's always so good to be with family. Home will always be home and there's nothing quite like the comfort it provides. The hardest part though about being home are the friendships here. I've kept in contact with a couple of my close friends, but losing others terrifies me. I'm such a people pleaser and I start blaming myself for friendships that I see slipping away. I try to apologize and fix things, but feel defeated that there's not a lot I can do beyond that.
It's such a weird time. No, I don't sit here dwelling on this, but it's definitely something that bothers me (especially since summer has just begun). Adjusting to this transition isn't easy, but I know the great girls sticking by my side are truly blessings. It is so easy to fret, but I have to remind myself that God will continue to guide me.

home sweet home & day 19.

I've enjoyed this time at home so far. There's really no place like home and these sweet faces (plus 2 more! I have kitties!) are part of the reason I stick around :)
I thought I'd dive right back into the 'blog every day in May' challenge so here we go!

Day 19, Sunday: Five of your favorite blogs and what you love about them

Well you all already know from Day 5 that Jacy's blog lenore lamé is among my favorites, but I have SO many it's hard to narrow it down. You'll probably recognize at least 50% of these, because their blogs have quite the followings.
So here's five more that I completely adore:

I found Emily's blog via her instagram and I'm constantly blown away at her ability to layer and mix prints.

I started reading this blog wayyy before I started blogging and I'm not quite sure how I stumbled upon it, but I'm happy I did.

Jacy introduced me to this blog and I'm so glad she did. Rita is so sweet, encouraging, has adorable style and some yummy recipes!

Love love love. Her looks are so put together and her color schemes blow my mind. I'd love to have this closet.

I found this blog not too long ago and realized we share the same home town! Small world. Kinsey is a beautiful photographer and has genius DIYs.

Literally my list could go on and on and on. AND ON.
Because I have so many favorites :(
I'd love to know who some of your favorites are! I love finding new blogs, so please share!

weekend casual.

Top + Belt: Target (old) |  Sandals: Target | Jeans: F21 | Chambray: Marshall's

A few weekends ago I posted an OOTD of this outfit on Instagram and got more likes than I usually do on my OOTD's so I thought I'd blog about it! The shirt came with the belt, but I decided to add the chambray on top to have some more layers. I love this top from Target because of its cute floral pattern. I wore this look to church since my church is pretty casual, but it's great weekend look for any activities! I'm finally home at last and can't wait to be posting more this summer. I constantly have ideas running through my head. I catch myself thinking about my blog, other blogs, etc. probably way too often. But hey, I love it!
Have a wonderful weekend!

spring brights.

Top: The Limited (old)  | Cords: Free People (out of stock)  | Bag: Tobi (found here | Sandals: Aldo  | Sunglasses: vintage

So I've hard core been failing at this blog every day in May thing, but don't say I didn't warn you. Blame it on the finals. All of mine are tomorrow and then I move back on Thursday! It's such a bitter sweet time. Bitter because I'm leaving the people I've grown the closest to this year, but sweet that I get to reconnect with those back home and spend some time with my family over the summer.

But anyways! For this look I chose to style these super fun hot pink cords again as a spring time look. Neons are super stylish this spring and paring them with this feminine flowy top makes for an ideal spring look.
{See how I styled these cords in the winter here.}

Have a wonderful rest of the week and I'll put forth my best effort to start back into the blog every day in May after finals!

the graphic tee.

Top: Five Pound Apparel |  Skirt: BCBGeneration | Shoes: Prabal Gurung for Target

I'm so excited I got the opportunity to do this collaboration with Courtney from All Things Unpredictable and Chic! One of my favorite things about blogging are the friendships you build with fellow bloggers even if they live miles away from you!
For this post we chose to collaborate our looks featuring graphic tees. I chose to dress up my graphic tee, because it's something I don't usually do! I love this tee because it's unique to my home town. I'm from one of the many Springfield's around the U.S. and one of the nicknames we have for Springfield is "Spring Vegas". So, I thought it was adorable and couldn't pass it up. It's from an awesome store with an awesome purpose that you should check out HERE. I paired the tee with a dressy cream skirt and some classic black heels.

Courtney's look is adorable. It's casual with some edge. And being a lover of England, I love the graphic tee she chose.

Also connect with her on:

Until next time,

day 9.

Day 9, Thursday: A moment in your day (this can be just a photo or both a photo and words)

Although a couple of these snap shots were taken yesterday, they're quite typical occurances as the school year ends down.
Also, this year has blown by so fast! I pack up and move back home (for the summer) exactly one week from today!
*Cue the emotions of starting to feel old because time is starting to pass by faster than ever.*

This is literally my morning every morning. The Today Show + Coffee + Oatmeal.
I'm all about having a morning routine.

Ah yes, the library.  I posted this on istagram yesterday with the caption: "Ellis Library, it's a good thing you're beautiful." Because if not, I would dread studying there.

And lastly this beauty. I took this picture last night on my way back from the library.
It will never get old as to how beautiful my school is.

New collaboration post goes up tomorrow!

days 7 & 8.

So since I forgot to post yesterday (finals are starting to get to me) I'll do yesterday's and today's! I may lag behind once the storm of finals finally hit but posting could be a wonderful study break!

Day 7, Tuesday: The thing(s) you're most afraid of

Well I'd say my number thing I'm most afraid of is losing my loved ones, but I don't even want to think about that. So probably the weirdest thing I'm afraid of are ferris wheels. Yup. I mean have you ever watched Mighty Joe Young? If not, this is basically what happens:

That scene has stuck with me since I was young. (It came out when I was 5!) But because of it, I will not ride a ferris wheel because I don't have a large gorilla to save me. Although, I have been on The Eye in London, but that's different. You're literally standing in a nice enclosed room not swinging back and forth at the top of some poorly made ride at the fair!

Okay moving on!

Day 8, Wednesday: A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.

Probably the advice I'd give any one is to do mission work. I've been on quite a few trips, but the ones I remember and have fond memories of are the ones I did missions on. And it's not because I can say, "Look what I did!" But rather I come back with such a heart for that area and find the people  have a large impact on me. You go and build relationships and that's what makes you want to keep going back. So yes, go travel! But I strongly encourage anyone to do missions, even if it's within your own country. You won't regret it!

{my dad bonding with the kids! the one in the stripes is our sponsor child, Steven!}

Have a fabulous week!

boho casual.

Top: F21  | Jeans: Lola by BCBG | Head Wrap: Natural Life | Sunglasses: Target Sandals: Aldo (old)

Another casual look, we meet again! I love it though. I can't stray from my basic looks. Simplistic style is who I am. What can I say? It's perfect for going to class. It's an effortless put together look. Any slouchy tee is perfect for when you're wanting to look cute but still feel comfortable. Bad hair day? Add a head wrap! I mean they're not just for bad hair days, but they mask them perfectly.
Be looking out for another collaboration post later this week!
I'm so excited about it!

day 5.

Day 5, Sunday: Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them?

As many of you know, Jacy from lenore lamé and I have become such good friends this year and as I've mentioned before, we're from the same home town and have shared countless rides back home this year (which I'm SO grateful for!). It's actually quite funny because we've kind of known each other longer than we had realized (we went to the same church and danced at the same studio growing up), but our paths didn't officially cross until this year. I think it's safe to say that we instantly hit it off and I think we have very similar characteristics.
When I started my blog at the end of December, Jacy has been a  HUGE help ever since. I didn't quite know how I would take photos for my blog, nor did I know if I'd have enough inspiration to keep myself going. But let me tell you, there's been plenty of that and the blog isn't going anywhere. It's been so nice to have some one who knows exactly the ins and outs of what you go through when maintaining a blog. It's an instant connection (strange, but true). We're insanely obsessed with Instagram (follow us: @kateaustin3 and @jacylenore), we plan everything, and we could blog gossip all day.
I'm so incredibly blessed to have met her this year and I know that no matter where her career path takes her, our blogs will keep us united.

day 4.

Day 4, Saturday: Favorite quote (from a person, from a book, etc) and why you love it

There are so many quotes that I love, but I'd have to say Psalms 31:24 is one of my favorite verses. It's so simple, yet strong enough to provide me with a pick me up at any time of any day. I would often write it on my wrist as a constant reminder and still sometimes do!

day 3.

Day 3, Friday: Things that make you uncomfortable

Oh goodness where to begin? I feel as though it's topics like these that not many things come to mind until they actually happen. So surely I can come up with at least five things as I write this.

1.) When other people embarrass themselves I feel embarrassed for them. I can't think of a specific example, but you know when you're watching a movie and a character embarrasses themselves and you are embarrassed for them? I'm not even there! I'm not in the situation, yet I totally feel for them and it makes me uncomfortable.
2.) I'm not going to get graphic with this one. But ladies, you can all agree that public restrooms are not by any means comfortable. And I by that I mean, going #2. (If you do not fall into this category, I applaud you.)
3.) Unexpected attention drawn to me. I can handle attention on me if I know it's coming, but if you call on me in class or I publicly embarrass myself I'll probably turn red.
4.) When you wave/say hi to someone and they don't hear you. That's awkward and you forget and move on. But it's ten times more uncomfortable when you say hi to someone and it's not the person you thought it was. Whoops....
5.) And last but not least, being a third wheel. Sometimes it isn't so bad, but it's not the ideal situation to find yourself in.

Up until this point I think I've done a good job of describing my outfits and why I chose what to pair with what. But today that is not the case. I'm experiencing writer's block and the only word that comes to mind about this look is spring. The florals, the lilac top, the wedges, and even the lovely backdrop all scream Spring!!
And I have to give Jacy over at lenore lamé a shout out for helping me style this look! I'm absolutely in love.

Thanks, as always, for taking time out of your day to stop by just kate. It means so much to me!

day 1 of blog every day in may.

So I ran across this little challenge of blogging every day in May. I normally wouldn't take something like this on because the planner inside of me is freaking out. Which is all the more reason for me to do this. I need to get outside of my comfort zone and not worry about each post being perfect. I'll still post outfit posts on the days I already have planned out (of course), but I may forget, get busy, etc and skip a day of the challenge here and there. But I'm excited! You should join in too! If you do, comment below telling me!

Today's post is 250 words about myself:

I’m Kate. I’m 19 years old I’m finishing up my first year of college at the University of Missouri. I’m an only child, so growing up I learned to entertain myself and grow closer to my parents than most kids usually do. Many people ask me if I like being an only child and my answer is yes, because that’s all I’ve ever known. As many people in my life know, Africa has a huge spot in my heart. It is yet another thing that bonds my parents and I closer together. The trip alone shaped my life and perspectives on life drastically. Which brings me to my faith. Being a Christian is something more than just a label for me. It’s a relationship that has brought me through all of my ups and downs. The Lord has humbled me and given me so many experiences, like Africa, that has formed who I am and I couldn’t be more thankful. My favorite color is yellow. I have two cats and two dogs. Natural sunlight and windows open are two of my favorite things. I don’t like to drive. I love painting with watercolors and doodling. I’m starting to appreciate my height of 5’9”. You can spot me instantly in a crowd because of my super blonde hair. Sweet tea always hits the spot. I’m lactose intolerant, but love ice cream. I’m on Instagram way too much. One day I want to own a French Bulldog named Eloise. I like to plan.

250 words exactly. I think.

(watch for a new outfit post tomorrow!)
